Angela Del Russo, MA, LPC, CCTP is a therapist specializing in individual adult counseling and maintains a private practice in Toms River, New Jersey.
In my practice I take a collaborative approach with adult clients. Together we seek balance, change and acceptance. These factors contribute to achievement of pleasure and fulfillment in life and relationships. I will work with you to build effective coping skills/strategies. Learning new ways to interact for more effective interpersonal relationships is also a common question which is addressed in the counseling environment. My strength is that I incorporate the theory of cognitive therapy with the concept that past experiences and interactions have an influence on current beliefs and behavioral patterns. Through this approach, I am able to come to a more complete conceptualization and establish trust and rapport with my clients which enables them to engage in the therapeutic process more fully.
Loss is a part of every person’s life and comes in many forms through death, divorce or separation or with major changes in life. The grieving process is different for everyone and can vary based on the object of the loss even though there are stages that are commonly experienced. I have assisted clients in resolving recent losses as well as prolonged and persistent grieving triggered by multiple losses of various types.
Another area of my expertise is in addressing persistent fear and past trauma. I have experienced moving growth with clients who have suffered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of “9/11” and Superstorm Sandy. The experience of trauma is being explored widely in the research from a neurological perspective and I have recently attained the credential of Certified Clinical Trauma Professional after training to improve my skills. Although I hold this credential, this is an area where I will focus continuing education in order to hone skills and be abreast of new findings.
I have also trained intensively in Dialectical Behavior Therapy which is a therapy designed to help individuals with extreme emotional dysregulation problems. Through this therapy, individuals learn emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance and mindfulness to help them lead a more peaceful existence.
